Get the look: Covet-worthy coats at Kaelen

In fashion, designers are always working seasons ahead and the same can be said for editors – when most people are shopping for spring, we’re already onto fall.

But at last night’s edition of the ShOws, where Toronto-born, New York-based designer Kaelen showed her Fall 2014 collection, the editors in the audience – including this one – were wishing they could wear the blonde designer’s slouchy mohair coats and cropped jackets home with them, thanks to the unexpected blizzard-like weather that descended upon Toronto.

Backstage Kaelen admitted she doesn’t normally focus so heavily on outerwear but this season was an exception. “Maybe it’s the Canadian in me!” she laughed.

Covergirl pro Veronica Chu highlighted Kaelen’s “cool, rebellious” girl with graphic boxy black liner (minus the mascara) and bold brows filled in not with a brow pencil but powdered brown eye shadow for a “softer effect that I can really feather it into the actual brow and make it look like hair instead of thick strips of pencil.”

Instead of layering on the foundation, Veronica skipped it all together starting with Covergirl+Olay Simply Ageless Serum Primer and a touch of concealor (Covergirl TruBlend FixStick) in key areas - under eyes, around the nose – followed by a light dusting of pressed powder.

As a huge fan of multi-tasking products, my favourite step in this look was when Veronica went back over the face – bridge and sides of the nose - with the serum primer for a lit-from-within-glow. “It works amazingly as a highlighter!”
