Toronto Fashion Week: 5 Questions with designer Caitlin Power

Caitlin Power is fashion’s answer to the everyday career woman’s ‘what to wear’ dilemma, exuding confidence, sophistication and vigour in every sharply-tailored garment.

Known for sleek silhouettes, architectural details and a palette of rich, dark shades, Calgary-born Caitlin founded her label in 2009 and has been showing off her coveted collections biannually at Toronto Fashion Week ever since.

We asked the Canadian “power woman” about the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN and WHY of her Spring 2014 collection. See her answers below!

WHAT was your inspiration for the Spring/Summer 2014 collection?

In June I was asked to participate in the Women With Purpose Global Summit in the French Caribbean. The culture, the music, the people, everything about the trip inspired me.

WHY do you love showing in Toronto and the energy at World Mastercard Fashion Week?
I love being able to share what I've been working on with the world, and the rush I get from seeing the collection on the runway is incomparable.

WHEN people see the collection what do you hope they’ll take away from it?
Power and Sophistication. I want people to see the show and understand the inspiration, and the woman I envision.

WHO is the 'CAITLIN POWER' woman, and what is she doing on a Saturday afternoon in Toronto?
My woman is fierce. She's the modern day career woman. A CAITLIN POWER woman is  the boss of her own life, knows who she is and where she’s headed. On a Saturday afternoon she's probably out for lunch in Yorkville.

WHERE do you see yourself and your brand in five years?
I hope to continue to build my brand. I want to see CAITLIN POWER available in major department stores across North America.
