Diary of the Week: Saks prepares to conquer Canada while Harry Rosen opens up shop

The dazzling new north wing of Sherway Gardens got a dapper injection on Wednesday night (Oct. 14) as menswear mecca Harry Rosen toasted its newest location. "We're bringing the best of Bloor Street to Toronto's west end," said Larry Rosen as he welcomed guests to the sprawling new store. At 25,000 square feet, guests had plenty of room to mingle among offerings from John Varvatos, Armani, Canali, Prada, Versace and more, and the theme of Italian elegance meant Peroni beers, a fresh stuffed cannoli station and an exhibit of Harry photographs shot in Sicily. Bellissima!

The Hudson's Bay flagship may be wrapped to tease Toronto's first Saks Fifth Avenue (we're giddy in anticipation!), but it was a the private residence of Suzanne and Mark Cohon that played host to a slew of VIP guests in celebration of its 2016 arrival. The long-established department store's president, Marc Metrick, was on hand to share what's in store as guests sipped cocktails blended with George Clooney's Casamigos tequila and dined in a spectacular tent awash in the the glow of candles and chandeliers. A who's who of the fashion industry mingled with philanthropists and tastemakers, the lot of whom are likely already fans of the storied retailer.
